Students and food delivery: the characteristics of generation z

Students, belonging to the Millennials and, to a large extent, to the younger Centennials, are among the most assiduous users of digital food delivery. Among the characteristics of Generation Z and the previous one is the cConsumption of food ordered online and delivered to your home, especially after a long day of studying.

THE'Just Eat Observatory, among the most well-known and used apps for ordering food online in Italy and around the world, and part of Just Eat Takeaway.com, analyzed tastes, preferences, habits and ccharacteristics of Generation Z, including their relationship with the food delivery of students between lockdown and the return to a new normal. Over the past 18 months, students have spent their days often studying alone or remotely with their university classmates and following lessons thanks to new methods enabled by technology. In this context, food delivery has proven to be a useful and still widely used partner. Generation Z in Italy likes it because it represents a special treat and offers a pleasant break at the end of long hours of studying (52%), it supports them in managing their main meals, preventing them from cooking and interrupting their studies (32%), and it keeps them company during breaks (16%). Gen Z and home delivery food in lockdown

According to the Just Eat Observatory, active on the issues of digital food delivery since 2016, the preferences of students before and after the lockdown revolve around a passion for food delivery that has also been confirmed during 2020 as one of the main characteristics of Generation Z. In fact, during the lockdown the habit of ordering food at home continued with 41% of students who ordered with the same frequency, while 34% ordered more. There is also a 12% of students who started ordering for the first time during this period, creating a new habit. On the top step of the food delivery podium for Italian students of the Gen Z there's pizza, followed by hamburgers, sushi, sandwiches, kebabs, Chinese, but there's also Italian cuisine, chicken, ice cream, poke and Indian in the ranking.
